M. Nonius Sufenas. Denarius circa 59, AR 18mm., 4.04g. SVFENAS – S·C Head of Saturn right; in l. field, harpa and conical stone. Rev. This rare and attractive denarius honouring Minerva an Hercules allude to the forthcoming struggle with the repubblican forces led by Brutus and Cassius. The gooddess of war, the consort of Jupiter, and the legendary hero are invoked as powerfull allies of the Triumvirs in their quest to avenge the murder of Caesar.

M. Antony, after had taken leave of Octavian towards the close of 42 BC, Antony proceeded to Asia where he was to begin his task of reorganizing affairs in the East. Initally, he fixed his residence at Ephesus, the seat of the proconsular governor, and it was probably from the Ephesian mint that Antony issued a handsome series of aurei and denarii celebrating both the Triumvirate and the consulship, in 41 BC, of Antony younger brother Lucius.
